Mayor's Declaration - National Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Awareness Day - September 4, 2024

WHEREAS: Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is one of the most common life-threatening genetic diseases, affecting approximately 1 in 400 to 1 in 1,000 people. Today, approximately 66,000 Canadians and millions of people worldwide live with PKD; and 

WHEREAS: PKD causes abnormal cysts to develop and grow in the kidneys, and the enlargement of cysts causes kidney function to decline; and

WHEREAS: The PKD Foundation of Canada is the only national charitable organization dedicated to fighting PKD through programs of research, advocacy, education, support and awareness in order to discover vital treatments and a cure for PKD and improve the lives of all it affects; and 

WHEREAS: PKD Awareness Day is an opportunity to step up efforts and provide a platform to widely spread the word, share stories, and encourage others to learn more. More information can be found at www.endpkd.ca.

THEREFORE: I, Judy Brown, Mayor of the Town of Perth, do hereby proclaim September 4, 2024 PKD Awareness Day in the Town of Perth.
