Mayor's Declaration - PRIDE Month - June 2024

WHEREAS Perth supports the rights of every citizen to experience equality and freedom from discrimination; and

WHEREAS all people regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, genetic characteristics or disability have the right to be treated on the basis of their intrinsic value as human beings; and

WHEREAS Perth accepts and welcomes people of diverse backgrounds and believes a diverse population leads to a more vibrant community; and

WHEREAS the Two Spirit. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, plus (2SLGBTQI+) communities contribute to the cultural, civic and economic successes of Perth; and

WHEREAS while society at large ara solely embracing new definitions of sexuality and gender we must also acknowledge that the need for education and awareness remains vital to end discrimination and prejudice; and

WHEREAS to acknowledge the efforts to bring awareness to the continuing evolution of the 2SLGBTQI+ Pride movement, Perth will display the Progress Pride Flag, representing light, healing, sun, calmness, art and spirit, on the Town of Perth flagpole for the month of June.

NOW THEREFORE: I, Mayor Judy Brown do hereby proclaim June 2024 as "June is PRIDE Month" in Perth and encourage our residents to reflect on the ongoing struggle for equality members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community face and to celebrate the contributions that enhance our country.
