Merit Hearing Adjourned, Mediation to Address Proposed Subdivision Issues
The Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) has granted a request to adjourn the merit hearing pertaining to the appeal submitted by CAIVAN (Perth GC) Limited (Case Number OLT-23000534). Initially scheduled to take place from Monday, Feb. 10 to Friday, Feb. 25, 2025, the hearing will be replaced by a Tribunal-led mediation, as requested by CAIVAN and agreed to by all parties.
Michael Touw, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Perth, emphasized the importance of finding a balanced resolution. "Mediation provides a constructive forum for all Parties to address the unresolved land use planning and design concerns,” says Touw. “Our focus is on achieving a resolution that reflects and protects the interests of the community and ensures thoughtful, responsible development in Perth."
The dates outlined in the Updated Procedural Order issued on Dec. 6, 2024 are suspended until further notice from the OLT. While discussions during mediation remain confidential, the Town will continue to share updates on the case through its website and social media channels as they become available.
As the matter involved legal proceedings, Town staff and Council are unable to comment on the case. Questions regarding the process may be directed to the CAO, Michael Touw, at cao@perth.ca.
